As in all over Hellas, there are ancient ruins scattered all over the area.
There is an ancient myth about the town of Karpenisi ,which in ancient times was called “Echalia” . The king of Echalia Evritos was the inventor of the arch and an excellent archer! He overvalued though his skills and he challenged God Apolo to a fight, which in the end cost him his life.
Later on his son gave his arch to Ulysses, with which he killed Penelope’s suitors.
This area bears the markings of different eras from the ancient times, medieval, world wars till the recent years. The markings can be easily spotted when you take a tour around the town.
Today Karpenissi is a modern town, mostly a winter resort with many restaurants, traditional taverns and warm people.
